CASTLE RESORT

Project proposal / Roccamandolfi, Italy, 2017

In order to preserve the natural and historical integrity of the site, this proposal for a new eco-resort in Roccamandolfi suggests minimal interventions dotted along the mountain. Programmatic elements provide new use of the existing landscape while allowing for the user to fully understand the context and relationship to the medieval fortress at its peak.

A series of loops act as circulation around the mountain and connect the resort units, amenities and other scenic programs. Each space references the landscape through the use of local materials. Strategic placement on the site’s complex topography allows for units to have unobstructed views of the surrounding landscape while leaving a light footprint.
