Project proposal / Seoul, South Korea, 2017
Project Team: Riyad Joucka, Oliver Thomas, Rikki Papa, Mengyi Fan
Yeoui-naru Ferry Terminal is a proposal for a new transportation hub and marina in Seoul. Located on the Han River, the project aims to be a key component in the socioeconomic renewal of Yeouido Hangang Park and its surrounding environment.
The design of the project draws inspiration from Korean architectural concepts and examines them in a contemporary context. It evokes the roof of the traditional hanok and reimagines the giwa by experimenting with material, scale and function.
A continuous surface rises from the park to form an accessible roof and provide views of the river. It is simultaneously grounded and weightless, creating a visual anchor point that connects the waterfront back to the city.
